Chichicastenango Mayan Market

Our market days have been vibrant and colorful since more than 4,000 years ago. These are the best places to experience our rich culture. Chichicastenango: (Sundays and Thursdays), is one of the biggest markets in Guatemala, full of vegetables, fruits, handcrafts, food and devotion, since this is the day a lot of people that live far away, can visit their loved ones in the cementary. We also will visit the mask factory and Santo Thomas church, where we will experience the Guatemalan syncretism.

Our lunch will be served by the local family TAMALES on Sundays and SAK'POR on Thursdays. 

TAMALES: made of corn with meat and tomato sauce inside, wrapped into banana leaves and cooked with special wild leaves that contributes a smoke flavor . 

SAK'POR: This dish is made with natural and fresh foods, its main ingredients are chicken broth or chompipe, güicoy, güisquil, carrot and ground white corn flour or Sak'por - finely ground flavored corn flour, originally from Quiché, Chichicastenango
