Forging is a manufacturing process involving the shaping of metal using localized compressive forces. The blows are delivered with a hammer or a die. Forging is often classified according to the temperature at which it is performed: cold forging, warm forging, or hot forging
During the colony, the Spanish introduced this technique, mainly when the General Captaincy of the Kingdom of Guatemala – today La Antigua Guatemala – was flourishing.
Towards the end of the 16th century, forging details could be seen throughout the splendid city, the glamor of wooden decoration was replaced by iron, balconies, aesthetic elements of doors, interior decoration of the mansions, furniture, lamps, etc.
Since then there is a street known as Calle de los Herreros, honoring those who dedicated to this trade and the workshops that were find at.
Few families helped this art survived through time, transmiting their knowledge and secrets generation to generation.
